John Bernardini Piano Service
John Bernardini is a graduate from the North Bennet Street School
in Piano Technology and Advanced Piano Technology which he has started in September, 2001 and finished in May 2003.
He has learned the aspects of piano tuning, small repairs, and regulation musical acoustics, tuning procedures and practice,
temperaments, piano maintenance, upright and grand regulation and has received his first certificate in May ,2002.
He also has a part-time employee at the Boston University Music Department as
a Piano Technician, tuning and repairing, and maintenance. Also has tuned pianos over at the Boston University Tanglewood
Institute over the two Summers.
He also holds another partime job at the New England Conservatory in Boston,
Mass as a Piano Technician at Jordan Hall.
He has formally held a full time position at M Steinert and Sons
Piano in Boston, MA as a piano rebuilder since February 2004. He has completed some new tuning pinblocks, soundboard repairs,
restringing pianos, damper assembly.
He also has completed the second year for the Advanced Piano Technology
which he has learned the aspects of piano major repairs and restoration, this course included the practices of appraisals
and estimates, pin block replacement, veneer repairs, refinishing, soundboard repairs/replacement, bridge capping, rescaling,
action renovation, retrofitting, and replacement, use of hand tools and woodworking machinery, he has received his second
certificate in May, 2003.
He has also taken some field trips with the school to visit Mason and Hamlin in
Haverhill, MA and the Steinway and Sons in Long Island, NY. These trips were magnificent with the tours and where learned
how each of these factories manufacture their pianos.
He is a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) of the Piano
Technician’s Guild (PTG) where he underwent on some seminars and conventions where he was advancing his standards and
continuing education in his profession. He has studied the three part tests which has qualified him as a Registered
Piano Technician (RPT), these tests consist of written part which is required before taking the other two. Then there are
the tuning and the technical test (repairs, regulation in grand and vertical pianos). He has taken the Written RPT Exam at
the PTG National Convention in Rochester, NY in June 2006. Then he underwent his RPT Technical Exam at the South East Regional
Conference in Richmond, VA in October, 2008 and then he took his RPT Tuning Exam at the North Bennet Street School, Boston,
MA also in October, 2008. As of October 23, 2008, John Bernardini has completed all of his exams that were required
for him to become the Registerd Piano Technician of the Piano Technician's Guild.
He has became interested
in Piano Lessons in 1995 at the age of 29 and started taking lessons at the Brookline Music School for three years and he
has also took up the Flute Lessons at the Dana School of Music in Wellesley, MA for two years. He is at his intermediate level
while he finds time to practice with those two instruments.
